Terms of service
Effective 13 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Jiffi Consultancy Pty Ltd for using HookChat. By creating a workspace or using the API, you agree to them. If you use HookChat for a business, "you" means that business, and you confirm you can agree for it.
1. The service
HookChat connects Instagram and Messenger DMs to your own software. It receives messages from Meta for the accounts you connect, delivers each one to your webhook endpoint as a signed event, and sends your replies back through Meta, inside Meta's messaging windows. We may change, suspend or stop HookChat, or any part of it, at any time. We do not promise it will be available, free of errors, or that it will keep any data beyond what the law requires, so keep your own copies of anything you need.
2. Accounts and workspaces
You sign in with a link sent to your email, so keep that email account safe: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. A workspace's owner decides who else can join it and what role each person has. You are responsible for what happens in your workspace, including what the people you invite do and what your API keys are used for.
3. Acceptable use
You must:
- follow the Meta Platform Terms and Meta's messaging policies, including the messaging window and the human agent rules: after 24 hours, only a real person, not automation, may send a reply tagged as a human agent;
- get the opt-in the law requires before you message someone, and stop messaging anyone who asks you to stop or blocks you, at once;
- keep your API keys and webhook signing secrets safe, and rotate them if they leak.
You must not:
- send spam or unwanted bulk messages;
- send or store content that is unlawful, harmful, deceptive or abusive;
- try to get around the messaging window or other Meta limits;
- interfere with HookChat, overload it, try to break into it, or reach data that is not yours.
4. Your data and your duties
You need a lawful basis to collect and use the messages and details of the people you talk to, and you are responsible for giving them any notice the law requires, such as a privacy notice that says you use a service like HookChat. You are also responsible for the security of your webhook endpoint and for what you do with events once they reach it.
Data that comes from Meta
The messages, names, profile details and IDs that reach you through HookChat come from Meta, and Meta's rules go with them. You must:
- use that data only to talk with the people who messaged you and to serve them, as the Meta Platform Terms allow;
- not sell, license or buy it, use it to build profiles of people without their consent or to watch them, use it to decide whether anyone gets housing, work, credit, insurance or a similar benefit, or use it to treat anyone unfairly;
- share it only with your own service providers who need it to work for you, under a written agreement that holds them to these same rules. You are responsible for what they do with it;
- delete it, and have your service providers delete it, when the person asks, when Meta asks, or when you no longer need it;
- tell us at once if it is lost, leaked or used in a way these terms do not allow.
You must act on any request about a person's data that we pass on to you from Meta. Meta can require you to agree to its terms to keep using its platform through HookChat. If you want someone else, such as an agency that works for you, to have access to your workspace's data, you must ask us in writing, and they are bound by these terms as if they were you.
You let us store, process and send your data only as needed to provide HookChat to you. How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy policy.
5. Fees
HookChat is free during beta. The tiers we plan to charge are on the pricing page. No fee applies to you until we have told you what it is and you keep using HookChat after that.
6. Meta and other third parties
HookChat works through Meta's platform. Meta can change its APIs, policies or limits, or restrict or remove access, and that can change or stop what HookChat can do. We do not control Meta and are not responsible for its services or decisions. Your use of Instagram and Messenger is also governed by Meta's own terms.
7. Suspension and ending
You can stop using HookChat at any time: disconnect your accounts and stop calling the API. The workspace owner can delete the workspace and its data in the console settings.
We may suspend or end your access at any time, including if you break these terms, if your use puts HookChat, Meta's platform or other people at risk, if Meta requires it, or if we stop offering HookChat.
When your access ends, delivery logs still expire after 90 days and raw events after 7 days. Messages, conversations and the event bodies in delivery logs expire after 7 days without new messages; you can ask us to erase them sooner, and we will handle the request as the law requires. We may keep audit records and anything the law requires us to keep.
8. Intellectual property
We own HookChat: the service, the console, the docs and the brand. The SDKs and the CLI come with their own licence terms. You own your data, and these terms give us no rights to it beyond running HookChat for you. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them freely, with no duty to you.
9. Warranties
To the extent the law allows, HookChat is provided as is and as available, without any other promise about what it will do. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes a guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law, that cannot be excluded. Where the law lets us limit our liability for breaking such a guarantee, it is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows:
- our total liability to you for all claims about HookChat is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or AUD 100, whichever is more. During the free beta, that is AUD 100;
- neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profit, revenue or goodwill.
These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them.
11. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms at any time by posting a new version here with a new effective date. If you keep using HookChat after that, the new terms apply. If you do not agree with them, stop using HookChat.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales can hear any dispute about them.
